What is abacavir?

Abacavir (also called Giagenio) is used to treat infections caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This drug is a group of drugs known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). How early the presence of symptoms of abacavir can slow down. It can also reduce the damage caused by HIV. However, Abacavir cannot cure HIV infection. This drug is available as a liquid and as a 300 mg tablet.

How To Use

1. This drug is usually taken 1 time in the morning and 1 time in the night.

2. Abacavir can be taken with or without food. Taking medication right after a meal can help prevent an upset stomach.

Side Effects

1. Nausea

2. Diarrhea

3. Anorexia nervosa

4. Low blood count

5. Feeling unusually tired

6. Headache

These are the most common side effects, but there may be others as well. Tell your doctor or nurse about all side effects.
