 What is Azithromycin Medicine?

Azithromycin (also called Yethromax) is used to prevent infection. It is available in 250 mg tablets and 600 mg tablets, all of which are taken by mouth.


How to take and store Azithromycin

  • You can take azithromycin oral suspension and tablets with or without food. If you have stomach ache, eat it with food.
  • Shake well before taking the liquid. Use an oral syringe or medicine cup to make sure you are taking the right amount.
  • Store liquid medicine at room temperature.
  • Discard the liquid medicine after 10 days or after the expiration date printed on the label.

Special Instructions

  • Before taking azithromycin, tell your doctor if you are allergic to erythromycin. Tell your doctor now if you have any symptoms of an allergic reaction. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, difficulty swallowing, or swelling of the mouth, lips, or tongue.
  • If you have severe or watery diarrhea while taking azithromycin, tell your doctor now.
  • Even if your treatment seems better, finish all doses of this medicine as directed by your doctor. Unless your doctor tells you not to take it.
  • Azithromycin may affect the way other drugs work. These drugs include warfarin, theophylline, cyclosporine, phenytoin, carbamazepine, trizolam, and digoxin. Always tell your doctor if you are taking these medications or if you are starting to take any new medications while taking azithromycin.
  • Antacids can reduce how well azithromycin works. Do not take antacids while taking azithromycin.
